Piano numbers are a guide for Piano owners or the
Piano serial numbers usually relate to the year of manufacture; That's information you can obtain from a number of genuine piano web sites and sometimes it's free! No surprise that often it's been "lifted" from some book they'd like you to purchase.
piano Buyer seeking information about a piano's age.
Or you will get it in exchange for your email address? Or they want you to buy a piano from them -
but they're displaying info written and published by OzPianoman (scraped from my pages) for which they take the credit ...

"How old is My Piano?"
At pianoadvisory.com we receive many requests from prospective buyers, owners and players who will supply us with a piano serial number in the hope of being able to determine their pianos age.
Our own 1907 Grotrian Steinweg Upright
Update for 2010. Certain websites offer a piano age determination service, charging extra for "online valuations".
Using piano numbers from Yamaha, Kawai and some Korean made instruments, age info is a matter of record and often freely available.
With older pianos and some obscure brands, that can be more difficult however and a small fee may apply. (see below)
Piano Serial Numbers
1/ Links shown below may include sites which are not piano serial number oriented.
2/ For some pianos production details are unavailable owing to lost documentation or records not being kept; In which case you'd not likely be charged for researching the piano's age. (Check terms of service for clarification)
Online Valuations
Selling ? Over years, for Piano Advisory visitors an "Online Appraisals" site has proven most helpful. Do visit them, because no adverse comment re Concert Pitch Piano Services has ever been received during my entire 11 years online ...
"How much is my piano worth?"
Piano serial numbers can contribute little to the assessment of an instrument's value. Model numbers and photographs may be helpful - but even so, without an expert's appraisal you will hardly be wiser for having someone "suggest a price" over the phone or through some email service.
An example:- The Grotrian Steinweg pictured above.
Owner comments: "Sounds good, needs tuning, old ivory keys, some notes aren't working".
I'm considering putting a second piano in one of our teaching studios...
After inspecting soundboard, frame, removing the action with its 3 broken hammers, checking bridges, pin block and
closely examining the inside, I think it might be hard to sell "as is" - but have an idea what it might be worth to me!
I suggest they should fix it ...spend a couple of hundred dollars and try advertising it, at say $1500?
"Hmmm... what will You pay us for the piano, As Is ?"
I offer $500; Buy the instrument for $600.
Spend a day or two "improving it"... And a year later I see one advertised for $11,000.
So what's my piano really worth?
How about yours ???
Piano numbers might help to establish its age.
But how does one describe - on the phone or by filling in a form - their piano's tuning pin tightness, wrest plank condition, key dip and blubber ... to a piano Expert anywhere???
Indeed, the best "piano numbers" to know may be your local Tuners' telephone Numbers.
