OR ...
(c) You can do the teacher "auditions" yourself; Score them using the checklist below.

Be prepared to travel outside your own area. Make appointments to call and "discuss" things.
When you get there, be Honest;  Say you'd like to compare Their playing skills with Other teachers!

Piano Lessons Your objective?   To find one with genuine musical ability!
Bear in mind that anyone can teach people to play Bach.
Or CZERNY! Eight year olds can play 'Fur Elise'.

Anyone can learn Beethoven.
I love Beethoven.     . . . Forget Beethoven!

Simply list half a dozen songs that You think any
'professional' should be able to play.

Or you might copy & Print the list below, so you can say:-

" I'd like to hear you play. Not that Fur Elise thing. Not Beethoven..."
" Know any Elton John songs? Or some Billy Joel ?"

" Do a John Farnham song! Play me a bit of Duke Ellington. Some Fats Waller?"

" Can you do Stairway to Heaven without the music?"

" What about playing at Parties... Any good old Singalong material?"
" Like "Down by the Riverside "The Saints "Where did you get that Hat?" My Blue Heaven"
" How about 'Up there Cazaly?" ( then ask them to "play it in a different Key". )
If they look distressed... say "Sorry, I thought All musicians knew how to do that?"

"What about the Essendon Football Club theme song?" "Can you teach people to play 'by Ear'?
" Some Boogie 'n Blues ? Do you know that Bugle Boy one? Some Frank Sinatra?
" Any Harry Connick? "George Gershwin's Summertime?" Rhapsody in Blue?
" Any Elvis numbers? "
Blue Suede Shoes? There's "Jailhouse Rock"? and "Heartbreak Hotel"?
" The latest Toyota commercial?" Play "MISTY" for me! And what about:
" Danny Boy? " you might ask...

Try this too :   Take along some recorded samples ...for these "music teachers" to have a go at !
(record half a dozen songs at random from your own favorites collection)
Might need a portable player of some sort ? Use your mobile phone perhaps???
