PIANO SERIAL NUMBERS
Our 1907 Grotrian Steinweg Upright piano *"How old is My Piano?"
OzPianoman says: We Don't Buy & Sell Pianos ...
but in 20 years offering Free Piano Advice I have received thousands of requests from piano buyers, owners and players who supply serial numbers in the hope of being able to discover a piano's history.
Certain websites offer a piano age determination service.
Using piano numbers from Yamaha, Kawai and some Korean made instruments, information is often freely available... for example :
YAMAHA PIANO serial numbers pinpoint the year (and even the month) of manufacture; I can usually provide quite accurate information for you ...
Email or call me and we'll happily assist - No Charge!
Online Piano Appraisal Service For older pianos and some obscure brands it can be more difficult -
some makers are simply not listed. Even so, at other web sites a service fee(?) may still apply.
Please Note:
1/ Links shown below may include sites which are not piano serial number oriented.
2/ For some pianos, production details are unavailable owing to lost documentation or records not having been kept ...
in most cases you'd not likely be charged for any attempts to determine the piano's age. (Check terms of service for clarification)
Online valuations:
Piano serial numbers can contribute little to the assessment of an instrument's value.
Model numbers and photographs may be helpful - but even so, without an expert's appraisal you will hardly be
wiser for having someone "suggest a price" over the phone or through some email service.
"How much is my piano worth?"
An example from a few years ago:- The Grotrian Steinweg pictured above.
Owner comments: "Sounds good, needs tuning, old ivory keys, some notes aren't working".
At my home, I'm considering putting a second piano in one of our teaching studios...
After inspecting the Steinweg's soundboard, the frame, removing the action with its 3 broken hammers,
checking the bridges, the pin block and closely examining the inside, I know it would be near impossible to sell "as is"
but I have an idea what it might be worth to me personally !
I suggest they should fix it ...spend a couple of hundred dollars and try advertising it at say $1500?.
"What will You give us?"
OzPianoman offers them $500 ... buys the instrument for $600.
Spend a day or two "improving it". Wow: Talk about Kiss of Life?
Listen to this one now !!! A year later I see one advertised for $11,000.
So what's my piano really worth? How about yours ???
TO SUM UP. . .
Piano numbers might help to establish its age... but how does one describe, on the phone or by filling in a form,
their piano's tuning pin tightness, wrest plank condition, key dip and blubber to a piano Expert anywhere???
Indeed, the best "piano numbers" to know may be your local Tuners' telephone Numbers.
About Links & Genuine piano web sites?
Some time ago, piano merchants were invited to submit their website links.
Checked a few recently & got some security warnings!
As a result I now intend to review and revise those listed.

They're not ALL bad - but let me suggest Why you should

It's because in order to be seen by you, sincere

In paying "to be noticed" here, many such relationships continue year after year.
On that basis, you are unlikely to be Spammed or Scammed by any of them.
